About This Item
by and for GI's at Fort Ord, 1971. First Edition. Tabloid. Very Good. 4to - over 9¾" - 12" Tall (large). 12pp., with over 15 b/w illustrations, including one cartoon by R. Cobb. Every GI is a POW was one of hundreds of underground anitwar newspapers that appeared near military bases, this one was at Fort Ord in California during 1971 and 1972; detailing conditions in the Fort Ord stockade, plus the 'outside' situations for veterans of the military (whether combatant or not). Articles include: Free Billy (PVT. Billy Smith was charged with fragging two officers while in Vietnam); and Rebellion At Travis (a flashpoint of Black Military resistance). Laid in loose is a one page mimeographed leaf, titled 'Details of the Sunday Riot at Fort Ord' (which apparently was triggered by a White GI's attack on a Black GI, and escalated to the military police's attack on suspected GI perpetrators, all during an 'Army-sponsored rock concert') Overall a nice copy, slightly age toned, but complete with no tears or chipping. Scarce.
