About This Item

Parisiis - Paris: Barbou, Printed By Joannis-Baptistae Coignard, 1726. An impressive printing of Virgil's works with very wide margins, but effectively disbound. Old marbled boards with red spine, front cover off, spine covering about perished, (30), 860p., (53)p. Internally very clean with a couple of old, expert repairs to top margins, light colored dampstains affecting the last ten leaves or so of the index. There are a few (very few) other small margin chips and a few pages discolored from the long term storage of pressed flowers. Leaves 577/578, 683/684, 685/686 apparently never bound in. Engraved frontis, engraved map of the Mediterranean, entitled "Aenae Troiani Navigatio" before the Anaeid. Two gift inscriptions and a name: "Ken Dalrymple A.D. 1732"; "A present from [?] [?] Dalrymple to John Kirk"; and "Thomas Laurie from his Grandfather John Kirk". Thomas Laurie may have been the Scottish missionary to the Nestorians of India, latter settling in the US, be we don't know for certain. Either way, internally very good and well worth rebinding, or still a decent, usable copy just the way it is.. Tertia Editio Accuratior. Hard Cover. Poor. 4to (27.5 cm x 21.5 cm).
