Octavo (21cm); yellow cloth, with titling and decorations stamped in dark brown on spine; brown topstain; dustjacket; 287pp. A few tiny spots of foxing to rear board, else Fine. Dustjacket is price-clipped, lightly spine-sunned, with light wear to extremities and two clear tape mends at spine ends on verso; Very Good+. Late novel by Bacheller, a journalist and author best-known for founding the first modern newspaper syndicate in the United States. A sweeping panorama of American life, centered around several characters from Bacheller's previous novels and covering the era of mass-production, with the moral showing the lack of fulfillment which comes with a lifetime of chasing the almighty dollar. A poor seller in its time, selling just 4,612 copies. Scarce in dustjacket, with an attractive designed by Arthur Hawkins.
