Boston: Little, Brown and Company, 1941. First Edition. Very Good/About Good. First edition. [viii], 413 pp. Original oatmeal cloth lettered in red. Very Good with moderate foxing to cloth and edges, in well-worn original jacket, About Good condition with chip missing from tail with tear and some associated creasing, smaller chip in top of back panel, edge wear, spine sunned, some tape damage to verso and two tiny mends with archival tissue to verso as well. A homely example of the scarce dust jacket. A notable novel of Slovak immigrant life in Pennsylvania steel mills, spanning three generations.

Synopsis

Out of This Furnace is an historical novel and the best-known work of the American writer Thomas Bell (1903–1961). The novel is set in Braddock, Pennsylvania, a steel town just south of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania along the Monongahela River. It was first published in 1941 by Little, Brown and Company.
