Pages have mild tanning and foxing throughout, moderate at end-papers, paste-downs and text-block edges. Plates are moderately tanned with some foxing. Messy remains of library plate to front paste down with some loss. Some occasional mild cracking to gutters throughout, binding is shaky. Cracking to hinges, no damage to end papers. Boards have moderate edge-wear with bumping to corners and rubbing to surfaces. Moderate crushing to spine ends, with splitting, fraying and loss to the head, tail and joints. Gilt lettering is darkened. Moderate tanning to spine.

An attractive red leather presentation copy, with the gilt motif to the front board reading: "Queen Elizabeth's Free Grammar School, St Olave's, Southwark". Very lightly rubbed, polished calf supple and clean. All edges bright gilt. Really nice to hold in the hand, with a solid feel. Prelims foxed, thereafter bright and clean. Numerous full colour plates of insects, shells, etc, plus in-text engravings. A really lovely volume bound to a high specification. In all, Near Fine binding, a little foxed inside. Very nice.
