About This Item

Collins, London, 1984. First Edition. Hardcover (14 x 23 cm), 272 pages. ISBN: 0002171988. The book and dust jacket (dj) are in Good to Very Good condition. Black boards with gold letter on spine. Bumped. Rolled at head/foot of spine and corners. Some light fading along board top edges. Pages tanning, some soiling/foxing noted along edges. Clean, tight textblock. The dj is bumped, scuffed/soiled with some creasing and light chipping along edges. "Anyone who survived a full tour of bombing missions with Coastal Command had won life against long odds. The RAF wisely and justly did its best to keep such people off operations for a year or so. But the determined young Australian whom they sent out to India late in 1943 found a loophole. The Chindits, the units operating behind the enemy lines in Burma, depended on air communications for their very existence. There was no other way they could go or come, obtain supplies or evacuate casualties. The troops in the jungle thus needed expert flyers who could asses the practicability of a landing strip or a dropping zone and who could tell the approaching pilots what to do. Terence O'Brien volunteered, and thus experienced not only a new form of fighting as a soldier serving in the harshest conditions but a new approach to the whole business of war. This book is one of the best to be written about the war in Burma." Weight: 500g.

I accept credit card payment through Biblio.com only. I also accept payment through PayPal (account name: manningbooks@gmail.com) or money orders (made payable to Eric Manning).
For international customers: I accept credit card (payment through Biblio.com only)
Shipping Terms:
Book(s) will be packaged and shipped within two (2) business days from confirmation of receipt of payment. All shipping charges are in addition to the price of the book, paid by the buyer. Shipping charges may vary depending on final parcel size & weight, buyer location and shipping mode selected. Shipping charges are for the final weight of the parcel (book size/weight plus packaging materials).
*Please note that all shipping costs are based on an average size book (e.g. 6" x 9", less than two (2) pounds (lbs). Larger books, or multiple books in one order may require an increase in postage charges.
**Please note that Priority/Express shipping is only available for domestic (USA) customers.
For Domestic (USA) Customers: Domestic orders are normally shipped via the United States Postal Service (USPS) Media Mail. Shipping costs are based on package size/weight, destination and speed (standard or priority). The shipping charges quoted for Priority Mail (Medium Flat Rate Box) are for a parcel measuring 13-5/8" x 11-7/8" x 3-3/8" or 11" x 8-1/2" x 5-1/2" and less than two (2) pounds (lbs). Larger and or heavier parcels may require additional postage charges. You will be notified via email if additional charges are warranted at which point you can elect to accept or reject the extra charges requested. However, smaller parcels may be subjected to lower postage costs (reduction will occur when order is processed).
For International Customers: I encourage you to contact me via email to obtain an accurate postage quote prior to making your purchase as United States Postal Service (USPS) shipping costs vary considerably depending on buyer's location and parcel weight and size. Overseas orders are normally dispatched via USPS First-Class Package International Service. The amount quoted for shipping is based on USPS rates for a parcel weighing less than two (2) pounds (lbs) and ultimate destination. Requests for Priority (Express) shipping will be handled on a case-by-case basis as such charges are extremely expensive to most international destinations. Any request for shipping cost increase will occur when the order is processed. You will have the option to 'accept' or 'reject' any increase requested before the transaction can be finalized.
