One out of every hundred is a crippled child... Many of them are hundreds of dog-team and airplane miles from medical care. This presents a problem as vast as the Territory itself." This book represents an important part of Alaskan history. Many of the recipes focus on local foods such as goose berries, rhubarb, cranberries, salmon and wild game. The game section includes such variety for Moose, Reindeer, Ptarmigan, Spruce Hens, Bear, Duck and more. True to the era, the collection has many Scandinavian and Russian recipes.
