About This Item

New York: [Tommy Hilfinger], 2001. First Edition, First Printing. Hardcover. As New/None Issued. Unpaginated. Captioned color photographs. Red cloth over boards, silver spine lettering. Poloroid size 4 color photo reproduction inset to front cover. Book Condition: As New. A breathtakingly cynical early 9/11 objet d' art / public relations venture by Tommy Hilfiger and commercial photographer Anne Menke. Hilfinger's/Menke's photographs celebrate the heroism of those proud American people whose brave response to 9/11 was to put flag stickers on their SUV's and pronto. As Menke says in her introduction, "Patriotism is a way of life". Indeed. The depth of Hilfinger's generosity is touted in the colophon: "Net Proceeds from the sale of "Our New York" will go to the Twin Towers Fund, which supports victims' families". That's NET proceeds. "Available through Ticketmaster by calling 1.866.549.FLAG now or online via the Tommy Hilfinger website on December 6th and in select Tommy Hilfiger specialty stores on December 10th. Further details, including a preview of the book, are available on [name of webiste] starting December 6th." Really, Ticketmaster? or Tommy Hilfinger specialty stores? Seriously? Not listed in Worldcat, no institutional holdings that we could find (who would cop to owning it?). Inscribed by Menke: "To the heroes of NYC, the memory will never fade.
