N.p.: N.p., n.y.. Broadside. 8vo (4 3/4" X 8½"). Near fine. An exceptionally clean 'n' pristine example of this patriotic poem by the noted Philadelphia businessman and poet (1817-85). Title (in Gothic typeface) and text entirely in blue, with red ornamental border. Although bibliographically challenged, to say the least -- and we've never seen any other printing -- one source suggests 1861 as year of publication, and Philadelphia seems a likely city of publication. These "slip ballads," "broadside ballads" or "penny ballads" were sold by street vendors and were popular throughout much of the 19th century, reaching their zenith during the Civil War; most were crudely printed on thin, delicate stock, though this example is handsomely typeset and printed on a better quality stock.
