About This Item
Los Angeles, 1966. First Edition. Signed and inscribed by the popular comedic entertainer, Soupy Sales: “To my dear friend Leonard. One in a million! I love you, Soupy Sales.” Original 81 page final draft script for a pilot episode of an unsold prime time black & white comedy/variety television show titled ‘The Soupy Sales Hour,’ dated March 6, 1966. The show’s guests included Ernest Borgnine. Bound in a black leather binder with the title ‘The Soupy Sales Hour’ and ‘Leonard Franklin’ stamped in silver on the front. Fine condition. With a DVD which includes this ‘Soupy Sales Hour’ pilot, a 30 minute black & white unsold pilot called ‘Where There’s Smokey’ starring Soupy Sales, Jack Weston, and Gale Gordon, and an episode of ‘Lunch with Soupy Sales.’ Soupy was born Milton Supman, and was given the nickname ‘Soupy’ as a child. He is best known for his long-running daily noontime children's television show, ‘Lunch with Soupy Sales,’ originally called ‘12 O'clock Comics’ and was later also known as ‘The Soupy Sales Show.’ Largely improvised and slapstick in nature, the show was a hit with kids and adults alike, with nearly every episode resulting in Soupy being hit with a pie in his face. By some estimates, Soupy has been hit by over 25,000 pies. He was also a regular panelist on the syndicated revival of television’s ‘What's My Line?’ and on the short-lived 1980 revival of ‘To Tell the Truth.’ Other notable game show appearances include over a dozen episodes of the original ‘Match Game,’ a few guest spots on ‘Hollywood Squares,’ and a recurring role in all of the many different dollar amount versions of ‘The $10,000 Pyramid’ from 1973 to 1991. He received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on January 7, 2005, a day before his 79th birthday.
