London: Penguin Classics, 2009. 1st Edition 1st Printing. Pictorial Cloth. Fine/Near Fine. 2009 first edition, first printing with number 1 to copyright page. Size octavo, 9.25" tall, 278 pages. Pictorial cloth the design being reproduction of Nabokov's ms notes that formed the fragments of the novel. Paste-downs start as white at the outer edge and then fade in to black on the end-paper, with the dust jacket. Book condition fine, a very clean copy. Dust jacket condition near fine, slight ripple to the edges otherwise fine, not price clipped. Each page is printed on grey paper and includes 138 colour reproductions of the index cards on which the novel was originally written. Nabokov instructed in his will for the manuscript to be burned but his family couldn't bring themselves to do that and kep the manuscript locked in a vault of a Swiss bank for more than three decades.

Synopsis

Vladimir Nabokov was born in 1899, in St. Petersburg, Russia. His acclaimed works of fiction include Lolita, Pnin, and Pale Fire, among others. He died in Montreux, Switzerland, in 1977.
