Philadelphia: Robert J. Hunter, 1955. Paperback. Near Fine. 40 p.: illustration; 23 cm. Grey card cover printed in black; stapled. A revised version of an article by the author published in Pennsylvania Magazine of History and Biography, vol. 57, 1933. The Philadelphia Almshouse opened in the 1730s and was later known as the Philadelphia Bettering House. In 1835 it moved out of the city of Philadelphia to Blockley Township, becoming known as the Blockley Almshouse. In 1919 it became Philadelphia General Hospital, which closed in 1977. Scarce. In Near Fine Condition: cover is slightly browning; otherwise, clean and solid.
