New York: Harper & Brothers. Good with No dust jacket as issued. 1849. First Edition. Hardcover. Original black cloth bindings. Vol 1 is missing 3/4" at top of spine. Both volumes have lighter wear at spine ends and corners as well as light rubbing / soiling to boards. Owner signatures. Contents are generally very good minus with light foxing throughout. The 21" x 18" folded map of California, Oregon, Texas and Surrounding Territories is by J. H. Colton and is dated 1849. The map has a 1.5" tear on the right margin which does extend about 1/2" into the map proper and a 1/2" tear on the left margin confined to the margin. The map is relatively undamaged but I would say the paper requires gentle handling. Each volume contains 6 engraved illustrations. Bindings are strong and tight. ; 12mo 7" - 7½" tall .
