Hardcover. 24mo - 13 x 8.5 cm.; ix - (3) - 557 (3) pp. Black leather over boards with gilt lettering ("Prayer Manual") on the 6 panel spine, gilt decorations and line work on the front and back boards, brass edgings on the open edges of both boards and a functional brass hasp closure on the fore edges. The leather turn-ins surrounding the paste down end paper have dentelled gildings. From the title page: "Drawn chiefly from from the Book of Common Prayer and from the Ancient Statutes of the School." The first section (up to page 64 - "Preces Antiquae") is bilingual in Latin and English printed two columns per page. Pages 65 & 66 is a list of benefactors, pages 67 to 70 is a Table of Lessons, pages 71 to 132 are "The Order of Prayer for the Daily Morning Service in Abbey", pages 133 to 328 are the "Psalms of David", pages 329 to 396 are the "Collects, Epistles and Gospels to be Used on Festivals and Saints Days", pages 397 to 436 are "The Order of the Administration of the Lord's Supper or Holy Communion" - "A Catechism" - "The Order of Confirmation", pages 437 to 557 are "Hymns". Minor foxing present on the first few preliminary pages and the last pages. All text block edges are quite darkened (they may have been gilt). The binding is sound and the externals show very mild wear. A very uncommon Church of England prayer book. .
