A reprint edition of George Meredith's tragic novel, first published in 1859. In the novel, consequences are severe for the young title character when his mother leaves his authoritarian father and him to pursue a love affair. --- In Toledano spine #4 / dark green leatherette ("Croftleather") limp boards / gilt titling and decorations on spine / gilt torchbearer to front panel / faded green topstain / yellow Bernhard endpapers.
