About This Item

Chapman and Hall, 1957. First Edition, first printing. 8vo. 184pp. Blue boards with gilt lettering to spine. Pictorial dustwrapper by Biro. A fine copy with clean boards & a little light foxing to leading edge - barely noticeable. No inscriptions. The fine dustwrapper is crisp & clean. Original price of 12s6dnet to front flap. Waugh described this book as his 'mad book' - a largely autobiographical account of a period of hallucinations caused by bromide intoxication that he experienced in the early months of 1954, recounted through his Catholic author protagonist Gilbert Pinfold.
