Braden, at his death in 1991, was Boyd Professor Emeritus of Speech Communication at Louisiana State University. He was most noted as the author of The Oral Tradition in the South and wrote or edited many other books. The contributors, in addition to the Editor, were: Bert E. Bradley; Merrill G. Christophersen; Ralph T. Eubanks; James L. Golden; Robert G. Gunderson; , Lindsey S. Perkings; Hardy Perritt; Owen Peterson; Jerry Tarver; and Donald W. Zacharias.
