Los Angeles, CA: Open City, 1967. Newspaper. 16p., folded broadside newspaper, illustrations, photos, lightly toned, very light fraying to a couple of page edges, else very good. Cover story is "Black-only Ghetto? Will Whites be Frightened Out?" about South Central L.A.; article on the rise of free-form FM radio stations with extensive interview with Tom Donahue, in part about his involvement with KPPC, a new LA station; "Black Youth in Revolt" reprinted from the CPUSA People's World; full-page interview with Van Dyke Parks; photo spread of scenes from a "Space Out" the previous Sunday, featuring a jungle-gym full of mimes (yikes!); and of course Bukowski's"Notes of a Dirty Old Man" which were written originally for this tabloid, a full-page and a half column. Editor John Bryan was involved in a number of underground papers in the 1960s to 1980s including San Francisco Open City, the LA Free Press, Notes from the Underground, and Appeal to Reason.
