About This Item

New York:: Julian Messner, 1961.. Book Club Edition.. Hardbound . BINDING/CONDITION: red binding; the top edge tint is green; a Good book, with a Good dust jacket.. 8vo (8.5 inches tall) . Description: Dust jacket art by Georgeann Helms. Gina Morgan's ambition was to be an opera singer. All her time was spent to this end until she suddenly realized her music had shut her away from friends and other activities. She had her hopes pinned on a role in the high school operetta, and when she failed to get the part, it seemed her senior year was doomed. Things looked up when Walt Kennedy asked her to the Valentine dance, but the evening ended in disaster when they collided with an improperly parked car, and Walt was forced to pay a bribe. This knowledge of city corruption was new to Gina and she wanted to do something -- but what? The answer came when her class in American Government decided on a campaign to get out the vote. Nobody wanted to head up the project, and Gina saw this as her chance to save her pride and gain her classmates' respect. Her Future Citizens Committee might be only teen-agers, but maybe democracy needed fresh young blood. In her all-out campaign, Gina made friends, gained confidence, and broadened her horizons. Bob and Jan Young were Robert W Young and wife Jan who also wrote as Janet Randall. Their collaborations also include Run Sheep Run, The Undecided Heart, Across the Tracks, Sunday Dreamer, Where Tomorrow, and several nonfiction books for young readers. Rear gutter code E 11 indicates a printing date of March, 1963.
