About This Item
Philadelphia: J.B. Lippincott Co., 1977. Hardcover. Very Good/Very Good. The eighth novel in the bestselling MacDonald's crime-thriller series featuring Travis McGee, self-styled "salvage consultant" with headquarters on a poker-winnings houseboat in Florida. This time, McGee answers a call for help from a former girlfriend whose husband's estate has been stripped by a blackmailer. First hardcover edition (paperback original issued in 1966), first printing (as stated, with complete number line). About 6 x 8 1/2 inches, 286 pages bound in red paper-covered boards with black cloth backstrip. Gold lettering on spine. Dustjacket's front panel features full-color illustration by Frank Kahn with author in red lettering and title in red, yellow and orange lettering. Back panel has small b & w photo of MacDonald above seven blurbs praising his work. Boards show light wear at spine ends and along edges, and text edges are lightly foxed, o/w boards and text show very slight spine lean, no significant flaws or damage. No chipping or creasing, no bumped corners or dogeared pages. Complete, clean, unmarked. Not ex-library, not remaindered. Dustjacket panels both show a few scattered superficial scratches and the spine and folds between panels and flaps show light age-related tanning. Edges may have been trimmed. All that said, the Dj's issues appear related to age and shelf wear rather than mishandling or neglect. It has no tears, no chipping or creasing. It is not price-clipped. A very collectable copy of a quite scarce MacDonald hardcover edition.
Synopsis
One Fearful Yellow Eye (1966) is the eighth novel in the Travis McGee series by John D. MacDonald. The plot revolves around McGee's attempts to aid his longtime friend Glory Doyle in her quest to uncover the truth about her late husband and the blackmail which made over half a million dollars of his fortune disappear. It is largely set in Chicago, rather than the usual McGee haunt of Florida.
