Light bumping to corners and crushing to spine ends. Binding remains firm. Boards are slightly bowed with ring marks to front surface.

Blanche Winder, nee Oram (1866 - 1950) was a British poet and writer, was born in Bury, Lancashire, UK. Blanche married Charles James Winder in 1897. Using the pen-name Roma White, Blanche published numerous books during the period 1890 -1910. Many were reviewed in newspapers of the time. During the 1930s, Blanche published numerous childrens books under the name Blanche Winder (King Arthur, Aesops illustrated fables and so on). She also wrote poem to commemorate the Battle of Jutland, 31st May 1916, under her pen name of Roma White. Blanches poem about Jutland was further published under the name B. Winder in The Muse in Arms: a collection of war poems, for the most part written in the field of action, by seamen, soldiers, and flying men who are serving, or who have served in the Great War which was edited by Edward Bolland and published in 1917 by Murray, London.
Harry G. Theaker (1873 - 1954) was a British artist Painter and illustrator born in Wolstanton, Staffordshire, his father George Theaker was the Headmaster of the nearby Burslem School of Art. He was also an accomplished pottery decorator, calligrapher, and stained glass designer as well as a respected art instructor and educator. His first known published works date from about 1911, and most of his illustrations date from the 1920s and 1930s. Amongst the books he illustrated are 'The Ingoldsby Legends' by Sir Thomas Ingoldsby, London, 1911; 'Children's Stories from 'The Arabian Nights', by Rose Yeatman Woolf, 1914 (and later editions); 'The Adventures of Don Quixote', c.1920 and 1929; 'Gulliver's Travels', 1928; 'The Water Babies', 1930; 'Grimm's Fairy Tales', 1930; 'Stories of King Arthur', 1925 and 'Long, long ago: stories from the classics' both retold by Blanche Winder, the latter probably in the 1930s (see National Art Library catalogue). Theaker made hand-coloured plates from Sir John Tenniel's original illustrations to 'Alice in Wonderland' and 'Alice Through the Looking Glass' for editions published between 1911 and 1930.
