D. Appleton - Century Company, 1935. First Edition. Cloth. Very Good/Very Good. Hardcover, DJ (has price $2.00), orange DJ band; all VG++ to Near Fine condition. First Edition, c. 1935 (same year on title page); 1st printing ([1]"" on pg. 188, last page). DJ bright, clean & glossy w/only a trace of edge wear & 1/4"" closed tear top of front panel- otherwise unmarred. NO mention of Pulitzer Prize on spine panel. Rather, there is a separate 2.75"" wide orange band that runs along & folds over DJ, stating this information, along w/ Akins' & Wharton's names. Blue cloth binding is tight, square & clean w/ just a bit of rubbing. NO bumps, fray, scuffs or spine discolor. Gold cover lettering bright, crisp & intact; spine lettering intact & legible, though tarnished. Sepia photos from 1935 performance w/ Judith Anderson. Endpapers & text tight, clean & unmarked w/ hint of toning. NO hinge splits, owner names, etc.; NOT ex library. Handsome. well preserved copy- displays extremely well.
