With 25 fine full page engravings, illustrations by Alfred Ashley British etcher and draftsman, active 1830-1853. Pages are tanned, Summary of Contents is foxed, but plates are in good+ condition! Large folding plate of London Bridge. Binding condition is poor. Corners and edges are worn through, top third of the spine is missing. The boards, however, still hold. Now in archival acetate jacket. "London Bridge Is Falling Down" is a traditional English nursery rhyme and singing game, which is found in different versions all over the world. It deals with the dilapidation of London Bridge and attempts, realistic or fanciful, to repair it. The earliest records of the rhyme in English are from the 17th century. The lyrics were first printed in close to their modern form in the mid-18th century and became popular, particularly in Britain and the United States, during the 19th century, as the publication of this book suggests. Due to the size/weight of this book extra charges may apply for international shipping.
