About This Item
New York: Farrar, Straus & Giroux, 1965. First Edition / First Printing. Hardcover. Fine in a near-fine unclipped dj with a couple of negligible edge-rubs.. First Edition / First Printing. Hardcover. Inscribed "For Jim and Betty with love from Cal/ Robert Lowell" on the title-page. The inscription is to J.F. Powers and his wife Betty. (Lowell was "Cal" to all his friends). Lowell's first dramatic work, consisting of three plays. Powers was a novelist & short story writer who won the National Book Award in 1963 for his first novel MORTE D'URBAN. Like Lowell, Powers was a catholic, and they had much in common. They met in 1947 at Yaddo, remaining close friends throughout their lifetimes, frequently exchanging letters. This book came from the Powers estate, and bears the penciled ownership signature of his daughter, Katherine Powers (who edited a collection of her father's letters). A lovely copy with an excellent association. 8vo decorated cloth. PLEASE NOTE that all our First Editions are also First Printings, unless we specifically note otherwise. All our dust jackets are protected in clear mylar covers.
