Fifteen page index at the back. The tail and fore edges of the text block are untrimmed as issued. Usual library markings otherwise the book is clean. Both end paper hinges are torn in the gutter though the binding itself is not affected and still very sound. A clear and removable archival cover has been fitted. .

Foxing present on page edges and some pages throughout. Front endpapers beginning to crack. Book is in acceptable condition. Francis Aidan Gasquet, O.S.B. (5 October 1846 - 5 April 1929 in Rome) was an English Benedictine monk and historical scholar. He was created Cardinal in 1914. This book is an historical sketch of the religious life and thought of the English people in the period preceding Henry VIII's rejection of papal authority and the beginning of the English phase of the Reformation.
