About This Item

1892. When Ohio historian Henry Howe, traveled the state in 1886 he spoke with many notables of Ohio's Civil War years and/or with their many friends, relatives, and neighbors. Combining these interviews with his personal research and knowledge, he gives insight into the lives of many of the Ohioans who played key roles in leading the Union to victory in the Civil War. These rather unique biographies are scattered throughout his huge two-volume work: Historical Collections of Ohio. We have extracted these biographies and arranged them in this New 97-page booklet, printed on 8.5" x 11" 60# paper. The front cover is protected by a vinyl sheet. CONTENTS include: "Ohio in the Civil War" by Brigadier General John Beatty, Loyal Legion of the United States: Ohio Commandery; A Trio of Civilians: Edwin M. Hayes, Major-General James A. Garfield; A Trio of War Governors: David Tod, William Dennison, John Brough; All in the Family: The Fighting McCook Family, Brigadier-General A.
