Ottawa: Minister of National Defence. Very Good in Very Good dust jacket. 1953. First Edition. Hardcover. This two-volume set includes a most distinguished provenance. Each volume bears the bookplate of Arthur C. Singleton M.D. [M.B.E.] inside its front board. Dr. Singleton [1900-1968] was affiliated with the Department of Radiology, Faculty of Medicine, at the University of Toronto. Laid inside Volume II is a two-page typed letter to Dr. Singleton, dated 1953 and signed by Brooke Claxton, Minister of Defense, in which the Minister expresses his personal appreciation to Dr. Singleton for his efforts "in preparation of this work, as well as [his] own [military] service, and [his] continued association with the armed forces medical services." The Minister goes on to explain that he is presenting this volume to Dr. Singleton in appreciation for said service. Volume I, dated 1956, includes a gift bookplate from then Minister of Defense, Ralph Campney, Q.C., upon front free endpaper. xii, 568, xvi, 537pp. Index and occasional colour and black and white plates in each volume. Colour map endpapers in Vol. I which includes nineteen maps in colour and black and white, many of which fold out. Clean and unmarked with moderate wear to maroon boards handsomely lettered and illustrated in gilt. Bindings intact. Dust jackets not included. A special set. Cooke (3e) p. 242, Enser p.93.; 4to .
