About This Item

Norwalk, Connecticut: The Easton Press, 1989. [1989] Green, full leather hardcover, 448 pages including Index. Binding: Lettering, designs stamped with gorgeous accents of 22kt. gold - a hallmark of fine bookmaking. Two raised ridges on spine. This beautifully bound genuine leather binding was hand selected from individually tanned hides. Textured and shaded, acid-neutral paper won't turn yellow over time. Pages are Smyth-sewn into the binding for permanence (not glued like ordinary books). Endpapers have repeating design of Presidential eagle. Edges gilded three sides to enhance the book's elegance. Satin ribbon page marker bound in binding. Condition: Insignificant rubbed marks on top edge (from shelving); else overall Fine. Like New. Book was property of book collector who purchased it new but never read it. He kept it in temperature-controlled book case, free of the smell of smoke from cigarettes or cigars. Harry S. Truman was not like any other U.S. President. He was plain-spoken, honest, and had an unpretentious style. The public's admiration for Truman's leadership continues to grow. Truman spoke his mind guided by what he called "horse sense" and wrote as he spoke. His personal papers are full of the candor, insight, and saltiness he was famous for, and the most entertaining of these papers are what comprises this book. This work covers the period 1945 through 1971, with nearly two-thirds of its contents from the years of the Truman presidency. A wonderful, collectible book in full leather. Note: We are a well-established, well-respected, ethical book dealer in business since 1991. We describe the condition of our books thoroughly and honestly, so you'll know exactly what you will be receiving when you order. We ship promptly.. Leather. Fine.
