Paris: Charles Gosselin, 1840. Hardcover. Near Fine. "Seule Édition Complète." [2], lviii, [2], 332 p.; 18 cm. Modern leather with gilt-tooled spine title and blind-tooled decoration. Former owner's inscription on blank leaf following front endpapers: "Alex. Bliss 1849." French poet André Chénier (1762-1794) was a victim of the French Revolution. This volume contains letters and other prose pieces by the author, some not previously published. Alexander Bliss (1827-1896) served as Captain, Assistant Quartermaster General of the Union Army and later Colonel, Quartermaster General during the American Civil War. In Near Fine Condition: pages are slightly brown; otherwise, clean and tight.
