Spine leather drying, light stain to front flyleaf. 1752 Full-Leather. 78, 109, 198, 58, 77, 56, 114 pp. Original full leather, leather spine label, marbled paste-down endpapers. A collection of works by the influential Enlightenment philosopher best known for L'Homme Machine, which takes materialist concepts introduced by Rene Descartes one step further to contend that human beings are automatons with no souls. These concepts later became influential in the theories of evolution and quantum mechanics.
