Pierre Jean Georges Cabanis (1757 â 1808) was a French physiologist, freemason and materialist philosopher, with a theory of physiological psychology, directly linked to biology. Cabanis was an early proponent of evolution. He influenced the work of Jean-Baptiste Lamarck, who referred to Cabanis in his Philosophie Zoologique. Schopenhauer called his work "excellent".
