About This Item
A Paris, Chez Lefevre, Libraire, 1838. Text in French. Original dark blue full calf leather binding with raised bands gilt lettering on the spine, compartmented, elaborate stamped design on front covers. Marbled edges and endpapers, pages crinkled. Moderately worn at edges. No previous owner's names, not exlibrary. Overall in GOOD MINUS condition. Jean Racine (December 22, 1639 -- April 21, 1699) was a French dramatist, one of the "big three" of 17th century France (along with Molière and Corneille). Racine was primarily a tragedian, though he did write one comedy. The quality of Racine's poetry is perhaps his greatest contribution to French literature. His use of the alexandrine is considered exceptional in its harmony, simplicity and elegance. . Full Calf Leather. Good. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Hardcover.
