CONDITION

Holding firm and strong. Boards and spine retain a nice rich lustre with just occasional minor surface scratches and a few small marks, with some very minor bumping to corners, nothing more.

Internally the pages are generally clean, although with random small patches of foxing and spots to just a few random spots to most pages. A few pages, A3, vi, 44, 115 have darker marks or patches. Bookseller plate of Foyle of London to rear paste-down.

INTERESTING

This work, or its translation was first published by Dodsley in 1750. Considered by scholars as one of the most important productions of its time, it comprises a collection of moral aphorisms, and enjoyed a huge popularity, especially as it was attributed to Lord Chesterfield, some believe that Dodsley allowed such a rumour to flourish to promote sales.
