Hardcover has red cloth-covered boards with gold spine and cover lettering and decorations. Spine has gold thistle flower pattern in three sections; front cover has gold ruled border. Top page edges gilt. Deckle fore and bottom edges. Black & white frontispiece by William H. Hyde has tissue guard. Binding partially cracked after first fly leaf, but still strong. Rear hinge beginning to crack, but also still strong; hinge has a small area of old bookworm damage. Corners and spine ends bumped and rubbed, with minor fraying at tips. Small hole on rear joint. Spine slightly faded. Rear endpapers lightly foxed. Pages lightly and uniformly tanned but still supple. Pages clean and unmarked. 345 pages. Cover title: "The Novels and Tales of Robert Louis Stevenson" Half-title page indicates this is Vol. III. No dust jacket. Carefully packed, shipped in a box.
