In most of Smith's novels, there is a scene where the heroine expresses feelings that are regretted later, which is, in this case, anti-Semitic sentiment. Pompey later visits Germany as the Nazis are gaining power, and relates this experience alongside reminiscences on a series of failed relationships. Stevie Smith (1902-1971) was an English poet and novelist. She won both the Cholmondeley Award, as well as the Queen's Gold Medal for Poetry. Eight pages of publisher's adverts to rear of text.Collated, complete.
