Fine in a Good jacket, unclipped ($2.50 net on the spine), heavily toned and soiled, chipped along the edges and spine, tears and creases at the folds and back panel. Grey cloth on the boards with gilt lettering and rules on the spine and front board. Square and firmly bound, gilt top edge, toned at the endpapers, frontispiece of Henry James, clean otherwise. The second volume in James's autobiography. This copy comes from the personal collection of Caldecott Medal-winning illustrator Maurice Sendak.

Synopsis

Notes of a Son and Brother is a book of autobiography by Henry James published in 1914. The book covers James' early manhood and tells of "the obscure hurt" that kept him out of the Civil War, his first efforts at writing fiction, and the early death of his beloved cousin, Minny Temple, from tuberculosis.
