Portland, OR: Grande Press, [1992]. Oblong folio. 336 pp. 100s of photos (many in colour), maps, illusts, colour map endpapers. Gray cloth, gilt lettering, colour map endpapers, w/ d.j. (minor edgewear, couple small ex-lib stamps on endpapers & title, ghosting from removed label on spine), still a G/G copy. First edition of Volume One of this invaluable history of the SP&S Railway, which followed the Columbia River between Vancouver and Pasco, up the Snake river, and through Eastern Washington towards Spokane. The railroad was jointly owned by the Great Northern Railway and the Northern Pacific Railway. This volume tells the story of the main line from Portland to Spokane, with a separate chapter for each segment, Portland-Vancouver; Vancouver-Wishram; Wishram-Pasco; Pasco-Spokane. Of particular interest are the 3 Howard Fogg paintings.
