Plate reads 'With the kind co-operation of the publishers the first 250 copies of this first edition of NORTH ATLANTIC SEAFOOD are being sold in aid of The American/British Appeal of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution. This appeal aims to raise the funds required to buy a new Waveny class lifeboat to serve at one of Britain's busiest lifeboat stations. Sales of this 'lifeboat edition' are expected to contribute over £1500 of the sum needed. The RNLI, the publishers and the author join in thanking all who have helped the appeal in this way. Synopsis

ALAN DAVIDSON is one of the world'¬?s leading authorities on fish and fish cookery. In 1975, he retired from Britain's diplomatic service to pursue a fruitful career as a food historian and writer. Cofounder and editor of the prestigious food journal Petits Propos Culinares, Alan has authored many books, including the award-winning Oxford Companion to Food and NORTH ATLANTIC SEAFOOD, which was inducted into the James Beard Foundation Cookbook Hall of Fame in 2002. He lives with his wife, Jane, in London, England.
