Generally known as 'Northerns' from the origin of this wheel type on the Northern Pacific Railroad, the 4-8-4 represents a most well-balanced, multipurpose modern steam locomotive, equally at home heading drag freights, fast through freights and transcontinental passenger trains. 248 pages of photographs with some text and tables of specifications. A fine copy in fine and bright dust jacket with one tiny closed tear within the near fine publisher's slipcase. Color art on dust jacket and slipcase by Mike Pearsall. A very attractive copy.
