About This Item

New York: The Series Publishers. Near Fine. 1944. Hardcover. Rose A. Palmer was a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Vassar College and was employed by the Smithsonian Institution in the early 1900's. Her book covers the history of American Indians from "the Stone Age" to "the age of electricity." There are chapters West Coast tribes, Plains tribes, Iroquois Confederation, Cliff Dwellers, etc. First issued in 1929, it provides an interesting view of Indian history about 100 years ago. Includes 85 plates and 11 text figures. Some pages are unopened, so this was probably never read. The covers are the very pretty publisher's original brown leatherette with elaborate gilt spine and front cover decoration; the top edge is gilt and the foredge and bottom edge are deckled (untrimmed edges used for ornamentation). This was originally part of a 12 volume set and is an original Smithsonian publication. ; The Smithsonian Series Series; Color & B&W Photos & Illustrations; 8vo, 8"- 9" tall; 319 pages .
