Bound in three quarter leather and brown cloth; 720 pages. Spine in six compartments with titles stamped in gilt. Corresponding 1906 dates to the title and copyright pages; no additional printings. A large collection of short biographies with attendant examples of the work of many prominent Norwegian authors, including a small portrait or photograph for each entry. Includes J. A. Munch, Wergeland, Welhaven, Monsen, Andeas Munch, Jorgen Moe, Aasen, Vinje, Camilla Collett, Ibsen, Bjornson, Jonas Lie, . Janson, John Lie, Caspari, many more. The cloth shows moderate edgewear with rubbing to the leather at the corners and spine ends; the headpiece is lacking (top 1/4" of the spine). The front hinge shows evidence of repair; the rear has a short crack, but both are secure. Bookplate of Norwegian-American collector Herman Gimmestad to the front pastedown, otherwise unmarked. A comprehensive review of Norway's major writers during the Swedish era. Uncommon. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall
