About This Item

New York, New York: Dial Press, 1963. First Mass Market Paperback Edition . Soft cover. Near Fine. Part of "a private log-book" kept by the author during his "long self-exile in Europe, his return to America & Harlem, & his first trip South during a time when the school integration battle was exploding." Also contains his "controversial profiles" on fellow authors Norman Mailer & Richard Wright, along with essays exploring racial relations, sexual identify, & much more. Orig. published as essays in various magazines & then in hardcover in 1961, this is the First Mass Market Paperback Edition from 1963 (Dell 6435), in 190 pages + 2 pages of ads in rear (& 2 pen marks here, the only markings in the book). Condition is Near Fine: aside from age-appropriate page tanning, heavier to outer edges, it looks & feels Brand New & never opened! Completely clean, binding strong & square, colors bright, pages unmarked (except for ad page in rear). No creasing or wear & nicely protected in a new clear mylar collector bag to stay that way! Our photos depict the Exact book you will receive from us, never "stock" images of books we don't actually have! All orders processed before 2 pm weekdays (PST) ship same day; weekends & holidays ship very next business day.
