G.E. Sabre's "Nineteen Months a Prisoner of War" is a Civil War-era account of life of prisoners in a number of Confederate prisons. Lieutenant Sabre was an officer in the Union Army and his book was a narrative of his escape from Confederate captivity. He describes many of the most iconic Southern prisons including Andersonville, Libby Prison, and Charleston.
