About This Item

Philadelphia: Holmes Publishing Co, 1988. SIGNED by Barkworth at the colophon. BRAND NEW in a BRAND NEW dust jacket. Perfect condition. A bibliomystery story about the quest of booksellers, librarians, collectors and wealthy foundations to authenticate and acquire a newly discovered text printed in movable metal type older than any by Gutenberg. Has parallels to real characters and institutions. Must reading for book world insiders. The author, S. Barkworth is a pseudonym; probably London bookseller Arthur Freeman of Quaritch. If so, his wry sense of humor is evident on the dust jacket blurb. Freeman's quote about his own book: "Absolutely wonderful. I really admire it." Bound in the original gilt-stamped green cloth. Complete with pristine dust jacket.. SIGNED by Barkworth. First Edition, Limited 650 copies. Hardcover. New/New. 8vo. (xii), 153pp. Great Packaging, Fast Shipping.

About About Books

About Books (Genny and Michael Winne, proprietors, formerly of Parsippany, New Jersey) has been selling rare and OP books since 1985. Besides book fairs and mail-order catalogues, long-time collectors and dealers will remember our lengthy For Sale ads in the Antiquarian Bookman and similar magazines. Our inventory of over 40,000 volumes is especially strong in the specialties listed, but contains fine books in a variety of other fields as well. Because most of our books are stored in protective boxes, rather than on shelves, they cannot be viewed as a whole. If you wish to visit us to examine specific titles, please provide 24 hours notice and we will make them available for your inspection. Phone calls to (702) 750-2722 are welcome, but please, only between the hours of 8am and 10pm (west coast time).
