About This Item

London: Chatto and Windus, 1953. Early Reprint. Hardcover with Dust Jacket. Very Good/Very Good+. 8vo. Pp. viii, 183. Frontis. photo. Amply illustrated throughout with superb nocturnal photography. Bound in full blue cloth with gilt lettering stamped on spine. Very slight suggestion of spine lean. In the photo-illustrated dust jacket that shows light edge-wear, price of 15s intact on the front flap. (Please excuse glare in photos.). Top-notch treatment of the short-lived phenomenon of youth climbing drainpipes, towers, spires and chimneys on the campus of Cambridge University. The photographs document absurd spire-bagging, with students proudly perching atop the most pointed architectural pinnacles. The narrative delves occasionally into mock-heroic prose, underscoring the absurdity of the trend.

Perhaps Hillary was inspired by the Cambridge kids. Dust jacket is now housed in a removable, clear archival sleeve.
