New York: E.P. Dutton, 1943. First Edition. Hard Cover. Good/No Jacket. Stated first edition. Red white and blue pictorial paper covered boards. No jacket. Unpaginated. Black and white illustrations throughout. A book for children following the efforts of Nicodemus, an African-American boy, and his friends, in collecting scrap metal to sell in order to buy war stamps and support US war efforts. With dialogue written in dialect. By Inez Hogan, an American author and illustrator of children's books, who wrote several works featuring Nicodemus. GOOD condition. Perhaps ex-library, with the remains of a pastedown on the inside rear cover. Heavy browning, minor soiling and a few small spots of staining to the covers. Minor scuffing to the covers. Heavy scuffing along the the extremities, with some chipping and loss to the paper. Some toning in the interior, with very light scattered foxing.
