Octavo. 278 pp. + publisher's advertisements. Frontispiece with tissue guard. Maroon cloth stamped in white and gilt with "Solidarity of Labour" in a band around the world to front. Decorative endpapers.
Moderate lean to boards, worn along edges with brief exposure and minor fraying to extremities, rubbing to lettering. Binding is sound. Ownership stamp and signatures to preliminaries and a few stray pencil markings, but overall interior legible and unmarked.
Utopian romance featuring "a nature-and-handicraft ideal society, based on communism and anarchism." [Bleiler Science-Fiction: The Early Years 1562].

Synopsis
News from Nowhere (1890) is a classic work combining utopian socialism and soft science fiction written by the artist, designer and socialist pioneer William Morris. In the book, the narrator, William Guest, falls asleep after returning from a meeting of the Socialist League and awakes to find himself in a future society based on common ownership and democratic control of the means of production.
