About This Item
Number 9 in the Hocken Library facsimile series. The original book was published in 1843 after being issued in six separate parts in 1842. It was written by Chapman, a barrister who spent 11 years as a merchant in Canada and was a co-founder of Canada's first daily newspaper, the Montreal Daily Advertiser. He also founded the New Zealand Journal in London in close support of the New Zealand Company. The Portfolio was written to direct the Government, the New Zealand Company and others to measures that were considered to be of advantage to the parties involved.
