Phisterer, Woodward Ave. , Rutherford NJ My ear Sir: The large work "New York in the War of the Rebellion, which the state printer has been engaged in preparing these many years, is now about ready for delivery. And it will give me pleasure to send to you a set of the six volumes in memory of your dear father who did so much for the Guard and whose life work will be remembered with deep reverance by all those who have ever been connected with it. This set was presented to the author. 6 large volumes 3/4 black morocco leather over bue pebblegrain cloth. Leather cracked along the other hinge but linen gutters are firm. Text blocks sold. Contents clean. Copiously illustrated with b/w photos, drawings, maps and pictures. Vol VI is the index. An unsophisticated but VG set. The handsome full color frontis for Vol I is of Colonel [Brevet-Major] Frederick Phisterer. Provenance- Colonel [Brevet-Major] Frederick Phisterer whoe name is stamped in gilt on each volume. NB - the presentation is to Karl Phisterer, Frederick's son, as final publication was three years after Frederick's death. .
