Unusual autograph addition: Tipped opposite half-title page is a Typed Note Signed from Hansen, 1p, 8½" X 11", New York, NY, 8 May 1964. Addressed to noted Lincoln/Civil War scholar Arnold Gates (1914-93). Near fine. Original folds. On letterhead of "The World Almanac," which Hansen edited from 1950 to 1965, he tells his friend (who was officer of the New York Civil War Round Table) of a scheduling problem with a Round Table event: "Here we go again. I have to cancel my reservation for the Shenandoah trip. I understand this enriches your treasury by $10. Sorry." Boldly signed in full in blue ink. Hansen (1884-1977) was a prolific editor, literary critic, journalist and historian.
